The Sugar Act
In 1764, the Sugar Act was passed on the colonies. This taxed sugar, wine, and other popular and important goods. The British made more taxes to bring in more money. The British wanted the colonies to pay for their own protection from the Native Americans. The Sugar Act made the colonists mad because if they just traded with Britain, their goods wouldn't be sold at the price they already sell to other countries.
