The Intolerable Acts
The government spent large amounts of money on the troops and equipment. This was an attempt to anger the colony of Massachusetts. The Patriots lost a lot of money on spoiled and destroyed goods that the colonists ruined. The boycotts of British goods, since there were taxes on everything, hurt the British merchants. The Townsend Acts added to the cruel punishments for the boycotts and the Boston Tea Party. On March 5, 1770 parliament repealed the Townsend Acts, since it wasn't making Britain any money. Britain also decided to put ore British soldiers in the colonies to try and stop rebellion. The Boston Port Act was the closing of the Boston Harbor. This prevented ships from entering or exiting, stopping the British and Colonial business. The Administration of Justice Act declared that all British troops and colonists’ accused of committing a crime would be tried in Britain. They were called the Intolerable Acts because many colonists described the acts as "intolerable", "harsh", and many more bad things.
